Raised in the garden, it took for Plaedo to move to Eugene to begin to grow food himself. Plaedo's gardening grew out his work with Occupy, when him and a group of fellow activists, tired of ineffective protesting and marches and realizing that “we all share the earth and we all need to eat”, founded an anarchist gardening collective called, “The Eugene Avant Gardeners”. A group that existed to help people with their gardening, give away free seeds, starts and produce, harvest neglected trees, teach workshops and cultivate a sustainable resilient food network. Over the years the group gave away thousands of plants and pounds of food, hosted hundreds of work parties, and facilitated dozens of workshops. Plaedo extended his talents to being the garden coordinator for Atlas Solutions, as well as developing a community garden and permaculture gardening education program through the city of Eugene. He has spoken at numerous events such as the NorthWest Permaculture Convergence and has even given a Ted Talk on his efforts to use the garden to cultivate sustainable resilient communities and cultures. On the home front, Plaedo spent over 7 years developing an edible food forest that grew over 60 kinds of medicinal and edible plants.
A systems thinker, Plaedo specializes in linking ecological and social design principles to cultivate thriving resilient communities and cultures. He is particularly passionate about urban permaculture projects.
